Trainee Engagement at the Royal College of Psychiatrists
In March of 2025, The Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Evolutionary Psychiatry Special Interest Group hosted a live day for trainee psychiatrists to learn from experts in evolutionary psychiatry (three of whom are trustees of the Foundation) and discuss the potential applications and insights of the field.
As a first charitable activity, the Foundation agreed to consider applications from clinicians who weren’t able to pay for the conference ticket from their study budget. One clinician applied, and was approved.
The day was a resounding success - on a personal note, the enthusiasm of the trainees was palpable and highly encouraging - the new generation really do seem to realise that psychiatry has ‘lost its way’ somewhat, and see that the evolutionary approach is one of the paths forward.
Congratulations and thanks in particular to Tom Carpenter, Costa Savvy and Ben Griffin for organisation.
